I’m Toby, a solo Youtuber based in the UK.

In 2021, after 10 years of working as a photographer and filmmaker I decided to do something different and start my dream project, making something I hadn’t really seen before but wished existed… mind-blowing, visually spectacular videos about the wonders of the Universe.

I hoped with my background in filmmaking and cinematography that I could take complex topics and weave them into a simple story that anyone could understand. Especially if I used the kind of visuals you normally see in blockbuster Hollywood films, full of spectacular effects. The only problem was…

I had no ability to make those visuals, I had no VFX skills. So I spent a year teaching myself and made just one video in that time. That video was the start of my Youtube channel, Epic Spaceman. Featuring me as a science ‘superhero’, taking my audience on a journey into the awe and wonder of the Universe.

After only six more videos I’d gained 350,000 subscribers on Youtube and I was in the very unusual situation where long, educational videos were going viral with millions of views on every platform I put them on, from Youtube to Reddit to TikTok.

My hope with the channel is to make something entertaining as well as educational but this is secondary to my main goal, which is to reach as many people as possible with the rare emotion of awe. There is so much magic in the power of science and the way the Universe works and wonder is a wonderful thing to share.
